One of the biggest challenges is finding employment, which would ensure financial security for the individual and their families. Job creation is a high priority and we have started exploring the various options open to us. Given the trends described above, it is unlikely that large numbers of the unemployed will find their way into these companies, either for work or for education and training opportunities. This may also cause additional industrial relations complications in a Company

The following projects have been initiated in Job Creation:

1.

The Zandspruit Sewing Club
Which is a sewing group where skills in Needlework, the making of greeting cards, beadwork, knitting and plangi (or Tie and Dye) techniques are taught.

2. PHYCS
The youth of Zandspruit have developed their talents of dance and drama into an income-producing group called PHYCS, by providing tourists with an African experience in the life and richness of Zandspruit. This entails a walking tour of the settlement, and then returning for a full African dinner and show.
3. Jumble Sale
Through the donations of clothing, food and household items, community leaders have created an income-producing project – a monthly Jumble Sale.
4. Dependable Strengths
The Dependable Strengths programme helps job seekers discover their own strengths to prepare them for a job interview.
5. Leadership Development - Training and empowering community leaders is key to the success of Emthonjeni.
Through the funding provided by PWC, Business Skills for South Africa mentored, motivated and counseled leaders from the Zandspruit Community, in interpersonal skill development and raising entrepreneurs and skilled business leaders.
6. Tourism
Tourism may prove to be a big income generator at Zandspruit, as it is in close proximity of the Crocodile Ramble. We are considering accommodation, a tea garden, sales shop selling handmade items by the local residents, and a tour of Zandspruit. This proposal is still being investigated fully.
7. African Village
Architectural plans are approved for an African Village model in KwaNdebele. Government has given 9 hectors of raw land to develop this centre, next to the Entokosweni Secondary School.

Objective:

With a value of empowerment, job seekers are assisted into different projects according to their skills, talents and interests. Income and skills development is the objective with the Job Creation Project.

Explanation of Needs:

1. The Sewing Group made bags on order for the Global Business Coalition in Washington DC. This ensured an income of over
R70, 000 to the workers. Further orders will create income to feed and clothe many families in this community.
2. Food and household items will be sold at a monthly Jumble Sale. This is an income-producing project.
3. The Dependable Strengths programme requires funding, as this project offers growth opportunities in highlighting talents, skills, life experiences.
4. n Income-producing group called PHYCS, has been started to
Provide tourists with an African experience in the life and richness of Zandspruit. This entails a walking tour of the settlement, and then returning for a full African dinner and show. This will still have to be developed fully and security may be problem.
We believe in growing Leaders to help others in our community grow. We know leaders are not built in a day but daily input into their lives. They also need real life experiences to gain a deeper sense of understanding and knowledge of how a business operates.
