“KEEP OUR PEOPLE IN SPORT, OUT OF COURT.”
The Courts are filled with cases against young people, who as able-bodied citizens of our country, should be contributing to the development of South Africa. The socio-economic conditions in the informal settlements are such, that they actually become breeding grounds for crime and violence and substance abuse. Children will shape the future of our Country and the ability of the Government to meet all the needs of this community is limited.

Explanation of Needs:

We have identified types of sport to be played on an organized level. These are soccer, netball, basketball, badminton, tennis and cycling.

1.

Netball:
Zandspruit is part of the Retuning Netball Association who organizes competitions between different informal settlements. They also have a working relationship with SA Netball and they have already started to do a talent search.

Zandspruit girls calls themselves the Mighty Girls and have two teams that practices regularly and 5 informal teams are practicing whenever possible with the limited allocated space. Our netball co-coordinator and team manager at Zandspruit is Nanthana and the Coach is Zanele.

2. Soccer
Zandspruit is very proud to have their very own gravel soccer field. Two teams are training regularly, 1 senior and 1 junior team. The talent and the interest are huge and the boys cannot wait to challenge outside teams. There are several informal soccer teams in Zandspruit and Thabo Mbeki informal settlement is a keen competitor. Coaches are Happy and David

3. Cycling
The required resources, may allow us to start a cycling in a team, a cycling co-coordinator has been identified. The goal is to successfully complete in races up to 150km has been planned and the interest and enthusiasm is great.
